Koebner phenomenon, friction and injury

The Koebner phenomenon describes new lesions developing where skin has been repeatedly rubbed, pressured or injured. In vitiligo it may indicate activity.

Common situations

Tight seams, equipment, scratching, cuts and burns may precede a patch in some people. Ordinary movement does not need to be avoided.

Reasonable prevention

Reduce repeated chafing, fit equipment well and care for injuries normally. Dated photographs help discuss patterns at review.
