Monitoring activity

Tracking vitiligo progression

Vitiligo may be active, stable or showing repigmentation in different areas. Consistent documentation is more reliable than memory alone.

In brief

Key points

  • Use comparable photos
  • Record new patches
  • Measure enlargement
  • Note Koebner changes
01

Signs of activity

New patches, enlargement, confetti-like spots or pigment loss after friction or injury can indicate activity. A clinician interprets these signs in context.

02

A practical photo method

Use the same room, lighting, distance, position and camera where possible. Add a date and review at sensible intervals rather than checking daily.
