Colour returning

How can skin colour return?

Repigmentation may begin as small dots around hair follicles or as pigment moving inward from the edge of a patch. It is gradual and differs markedly between people and areas.

En resumen

Puntos clave

  • Small dots can be an early sign
  • The face often responds better
  • Hands and feet are more difficult
  • Comparable photos help
  • Response is never guaranteed
01

Typical early patterns

Perifollicular dots arise around hairs. Marginal repigmentation progresses from the border, while diffuse colour may appear more evenly within a patch.

02

Why areas differ

Hair-follicle density, duration, activity, white hairs and treatment influence response. The face and neck often respond more readily than fingers, toes, hands and feet.

03

Documenting progress

Photographs should use similar lighting, distance and position. Monthly comparisons are usually more informative than checking the skin every day.
