Prepare a short explanation
A child might say: ‘Vitiligo is a non-contagious pigment condition.’ They should help decide who is told and how much detail is shared.
Respond to bullying
Repeated comments, exclusion and online attacks should be documented and addressed promptly. Anxiety, withdrawal or school avoidance needs additional support.
Editorial basis: current AWMF S2k guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of vitiligo, register 013-093, version 2.0 dated 27 July 2026. Reviewed on 2 September 2026.
