Targeted investigations

Are blood tests needed for vitiligo?

Blood tests do not diagnose vitiligo itself. They are selected when symptoms, personal history or examination suggest an associated condition or deficiency.

In breve

Punti essenziali

  • Not always required
  • Thyroid history matters
  • Symptoms guide testing
  • Results need interpretation
01

Possible indications

Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction, a strong autoimmune history, anaemia symptoms or a restrictive diet may support targeted investigation.

02

Avoid broad unsupervised panels

A result outside a reference range does not automatically explain pigment loss. Testing and supplementation should answer a defined clinical question.
